Lela Akiashvili has many years of international experience in the field of human rights. Since 2019, Lela has held the position of Advisor to the Prime Minister on Human Rights and Gender Equality. She is currently manager of the UNDP Human Rights, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion program.

While working for an international NGO ‘’Save the Children”, Lela has made significant contributions to the development of a gender equality organizational mechanism. She also worked for Joan B. Croc Institute for Law and Peace as a researcher on women, peace and security. Lela Akiashvili also has experience working with the Permanent Mission of Georgia to the United Nations and Texas A&M University.

The speaker spoke about the mechanisms of human rights protection, policy development and monitoring in the country. He also highlighted the importance of engaging various stakeholders in the human rights policy-making process, the inclusive process and the importance of public consultation. Lela introduced the students an important reforms that the state has implemented in recent years, as well as the challenges that the pandemic has created in specific areas.
